What to Expect

Jump into a full day adventure ideal for true travel-hungry foodies wanting to explore the depths of the rich Yucatan Peninsula. We will visit the beautifully preserved colonial city of Valladolid, shopping for unique ingredients with the locals in the local market and swimming in a cenote hidden right in the middle of the city. Once back in Tulum, you will learn the secrets of traditional Mexican & Yucatec cooking with your wonderful host, Lily.

Schedule

• 7:00 am: Rendezvous at meeting point and transport to Rivera's Kitchen Tulum
• 7:15 am: Welcome coffee for a fresh morning start! Along with and traditional Mexican sweet bread, we will briefly go through the activities of the day, discuss menu options, write our shopping list and get ready for the trip!
• 7:30 am: Get on the road to Valladolid!
• 9:00 am: Arrival at this beautiful colonial city. We explore it's most beautiful landmarks and learn about the amazingly rich culture of Yucatan along the way. We will go to the Municipal Market to buy our ingredients while sampling some of the most representative fruits and vegetables of Mayan and creole cuisine.
• 10:00 am: Street food tour! We will try Yucatan’s traditional “antojitos” in the most beloved food stalls of Valladolid.
• 11:15 am: We will refresh ourselves plunging into a spectacular cenote hidden in the middle of the city, with a vault as high as a cathedral and incredibly clear water filtered out through the region's unique subterranean river network.
• 12:15 pm: We head back to Tulum.
• 1:45 pm: Once back in Tulum, we will freshen up with a cold drink while we prepare everything to begin our traditional Mexican cooking class
• 2:00 pm: We will start our cooking class! While we cook, we will make a small pause for a mezcal, tasting to understand the rich history and flavors of this iconic Mexican drink.
• 3:00 pm: Time to dig in! We will sit around the table to enjoy the fruit of our work along with fresh handmade tortillas and a delicious cold beer, red wine, agua fresca, or a bit of everything!
• 4:00 pm: We say our goodbyes after an amazing and delicious adventure.
