Learn to Make Great Buddha Bread in Temple Town of Kamakura

A bread-baking blogger from 'All About Japan' will share a secret recipe of Great Buddha bread with you. Kamakura is known for a city of history, temples, and nature as well as a city of Great Buddha. People here are proud of the statue and you can find many Buddha-designed goods, from snow globe to chocolate. But no Buddha bread can be found except in our studio. 

Before shaping bread dough, you will draw a head of Buddha on a sheet of paper. This is like the time of meditation. While waiting for the bread to rise and be ready to bake, we will make okonomiyaki (savory pancake) or takoyaki (octopus-blending pancake balls) on a griddle.

Monday (2:30 pm only)

Tuesday

• 10:00 am: Meet at Hase station of Enoshima line
• 10:15 am: Drawing your own Buddha on a paper
• 10:30 am: Shape green tea bread dough into the shape of Buddha from your drawing and let it rise
• 10:45 am: Making okonomiyaki/takoyaki for your snack while waiting for the dough to rise 
• 11:15 pm: Baking bread 
• 11:30 pm: Wrapping your bread to go for a walk in Kamakura

• 2:30 pm: Meet at Hase station of Enoshima line

• 3:00 pm: Shape green tea bread dough into the shape of Buddha from your drawing and let it rise
