" Enjoy traveling by tuk tuk to a small local market to buy Thai ingredients. Back at the school, you will be rewarded with a glass of iced lemon tea before getting into your apron. "

What I liked: The details that Mae gave us about each ingredient and each dish. It's a good class for people who want to cook the dishes again once they get home. The school is near Khaosan road, the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew. Perfect to walk and explore the area after your cooking class.

What to know: The school is hidden between two streets and can be hard to find, but ask a local and they will happily show you.

Good for: There are many details and secret techniques in Thai food, which can be the key to making a Thai dish successfully. The structure and focus of the class makes it good for those who want to come out with a good grasp of the cuisine.

Best way to get there: Go to Ratchathewi BTS station and the get on a motorbike or tuk tuk that should cost you 100 baht to Khaosan.

Phenomenal

We were taken by a knowledgeable guide to a local market where we learned about the various ingredients we would be cooking with. Once everything was picked up, we returned to the kitchen where we learned how to make Green Curry paste, Green Curry, Tom Yum Soup, Pad Thai and Sticky rice with mango. The food was the best we had in Thailand thus far and makes you appreciate the impact of local ingredients. Would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone staying in Bangkok.

Thorough, informative and engaging.

I highly recommend Maliwan Thai Cooking class. The market tour was fascinating and I learned a lot about the local ingredients. The class itself was professionally and efficiently run. We each had our own cooking station and the ingredients were premeasured and set out for us to cook following an excellent and thorough demonstration. We each had a taste of the instructor's cooking in order to have a baseline to follow. She made it fun and interesting and ensured that we could replicate our experience, as much as she could. After cooking our individual entrees, we all sat down together for an enjoyable meal of our own cooking. It started and finished on time. My experience in Bangkok would not have been as memorable without this awesome cooking class. DO IT!

Very good

Shopping was fun and informative. The cooking lesson was very well organized. Teacher and assistant were very efficient. The dishes we made were good (but a bit too similar to one another: I would have preferred more variety in tastes and ingredients, and more fruits and veggies). Also, 5 pm for us is an odd time of day to eat. Finally, I would have preferred somebody's "real" kitchen. Your kitchen is perfect and very well equipped, but kind of undescript and pretty Westernized. Thanks Mae, we gad fun! xx
