Hi I am Karen. I was born in Sichuan and have lived Chengdu for many years.

I love local market and have developed this love over 10 years. It is vibrant, interesting and lovely, so it always brings me energy and the simplest happiness. Every time I travel to a new place, the local market instead of tourist attractions is where I must go. Because I think this is the best way to taste the authentic delicacy and know people, culture and lifestyle in a new place.

If you want to know how to eat like a local, how to live like a local, how to think like a local, just come with me!

The market is hidden in some local alleys which were built in 1970s. So our tour is to walk along these alleys.

In the first alley, we'll taste different kinds of traditional Chinese wine. We'll meet a variety of dry food, like noodles and beans I'll highlight Sichuan pickle and you'll know its feature, history, making process and taste it. If you are brave enough, you can try century egg.

In the second alley, we'll meet traditional and magic dog skin plaster and acupuncture. Here have so many lovely food stalls. I'll highlight our important seasoning: ginger and garlic. I'll tell you some secrets which outsiders never know about Sichuan cuisine. We'll go to my favorite noodle restaurant which is hidden in an alley.

In the third alley, it's the biggest one. In addition to plenty of food, we'll meet all kinds of spices. I'll highlight chili and Sichuan peppercorn: the iconic seasoning. We'll meet people playing Mahjong and cards, how to kill and clean eel, fish and frog, authentic barber stall. We'll meet funeral store and i'll introduce our Chinese funeral culture and custom. I'll take you to a hidden restaurant for douhua and spicy blood curd with large intestine.
