Half-day Cooking Workshop in La Maison Arabe

I would definitely recommend this class to friends and family visiting Marrakech.

We've taken many cooking classes in different countries around the world and this was the most high-tech. By "high-tech", I mean each cooking station had a dedicated video screen that showed what the instructor was doing. It was very cool and something we'd never seen before. The venue was beautiful and the cooking class staff was wonderful. We enjoyed ourselves.

The whole experience was very professional and educational. Especially after eating tagine for over a week it was nice to learn to cook it.

A remarkable treat for those who like to cook and those who don`t. You get a good perspective on the spices and ingredients used in Morocco food, and learn how to cook a main dish, two salads, bread and even a dessert. And to eat in the sumptuous La Maison Arabe. Simo, the morrocan Gordon Ramsay, did a great (and funny) "Hell`s Kitchen style" introductio, and chef Fathia was the perfect maestrina. If you go to Marrakesh you should try this one.

Class was interesting for all attending- children to a professional chief. For experienced cooks, the mixture of spices was most interesting. The food was delicious.

Went to Maison Arabe on a previous visit to Morocco, and came back with my parents. The setup was the same, which was perfect! You cook a tagine, and an aubergine/ eggplant side dish. Even amateur cooks can follow. Would recommend to anyone visiting Marrakesh. It’s an easy journey from the Medina. The tea ceremony and bread baking are the icing on the top!

I somehow convinced my husband, who doesn’t do these kind of things, to join me on this cooking class. He was very pleasantly surprised and glad he did it! We both found it exciting, fun, funny and educational. This was a great way to be introduced to Moroccan food. While I would say I’m an awesome cook anyway (also, it explains my husband’s big belly 😉), but all the food we cooked was delicious. I an grateful for the recipes and learning experience. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

We attended the 3 hour class and it was absolutely excellent. The people I went with said it was the highlight of our trip to Morocco.

At short notice Cookly secured our family of 6 places in the famous La Maison Arabe cooking workshop. We had been trying with no luck for a week but Maureen made it happen. We arrived for our 3 hour afternoon workshop. The Moroccan Dada (chef) was accompanied by an English translator. We began by looking at herbs and spices used in Moroccan cooking, then had a mint tea ceremony. The kitchen included modern work stations with overhead CCTV to help. We prepared a tagine and two salads, and watched dessert being prepared. Then we enjoyed our labour as a group afterwards for dinner. Wonderful gift of a terracotta tagine and recipe cards presented to each chef to end the workshop. We all agreed it was a great experience.

The way into a man’s heart is said to be via his stomach but on our cookery course at la Maison Arabe we found that one way into the heart of another culture is via its cuisine. Our Morrocan cuisine course was hosted by the delightful and super-positive Wafa. After arriving at La Madison Arabe Hotel, we were transported to The hotel’s beautiful Country Club in L’Palmarie district at the edge of Marrakech. The course took place in a nicely appointed, purpose made and modern facility with a lovely garden. Wafa first gave us some kind words of welcome before giving us a short insight into the cultural significance of cuisine in Morrocan society and a history of the fascinating peoples that have mixed together over time here to create the wonderful and vibrant society that is modern Morocco. With a friendly team lead by chef Houda we were first invited to learn about the significant art of tea making, with its complex technique, exotic fresh ingredients and traditional ceremony. After this we were taking our not the ‘classroom’ which was more like the set of one of the cookery shows on TV but with a sumptuous, Moroccan vibe, Here with the aid of Wafa and chef Houda, we were guided through demonstrations on various fascinating topics, culminating in our own chance to prepare a full and authentic (and even in my own case) delicious tasting chicken Tagine. All of the lucky participants had a hugely enjoyable time and came away from the course with a real insight into Moroccan cuisine and with the basic skills to add a little Arabic flavour into our own lives. My partner, Sheila and I enjoyed the course and would recommend it to anyone.

My husband and I were thrilled to be able to participate in this Moroccan cooking course after signing up at the last minute! The staff and chef were very knowledgeable and were able to communicate/instruct in English clearly. After explaining what Moroccan cuisine consists of and it’s origins, our instructor showed us the spices and herbs essential to many of the dishes. Then we were treated to a tea ceremony. Next, we headed upstairs for the hands on cooking portion. We observed making the traditional bread and making the custard for dessert. Step by step instructions for creating our own tagine, cooked salad and raw salad. Very organized and pre-prepped for smooth assembly of each dish. Finally, we were served our own meals in a beautiful dining environment. A truly fabulous experience! We totally recommend this cooking course! 5 stars!

Loved every detail, the tea demonstrastion was very interesting and the food was easy to make and turned out delicious.

The food was good but what really made the class was Hasna & Habiba. They are so friendly and so kind they really made it a great experience. If you want to do a cooking class in Marrakech this is the only one to choose.

Hasna is an excellent host, who explained the history, theory and style of cooking elegantly We had a class of 8 people which was just right and it was fun interesting and of course the food tasted amazing I will totally recommend this class to anyone... Good job by all

Could not have been better

Before the class we were taken to see a public oven. That was so interesting. The class itself was great. We cooked chicken tajine and it was the best chicken tajine I had in my 19 days of travel throughout Morocco. The class was also well organised, everyone was helpful and it was held in a beautiful room. Each person cooked for himself/herself.

What a fabulous afternoon we had! Our group was small( only 3 students) First we were expertly guided through Moroccan customs, like the tea ceremony or cooking a Tagine in a public oven and collection and use of Moroccan spices by the lovely Yomna who accompanied us all afternoon as our translated. Her English is impeccable her manner gentle and kind. The kitchen was beautiful, spotless and well equipped as one would have expected from such an institution. The cooking lesson was run by the experienced and kind Dada Habiba. She lovingly guided us through all the required steps of chopping, frying and seasoning of a ‘Chicken Tagine with preserved Lemons’ and two salads. She also demonstrated how to make the bread and how to preserve lemons. She was fully concentrated on us and was very encouraging. Time went by way too fast, we had so much fun and I would love to see an extension of the program to different courses, and perhaps a full day course so I can return to learn more on my next visit to the beautiful Marrakesh. A very special surprise followed when we had finished the cooking - apart from a certificate we also received a present of a clay Tagine pot. I can’t wait to put into action what I have learnt as soon as I return back home to England. At the end we were served our “ creation” by a waiter of the main restaurant, and he even packt half of my meal so I could take it away and share it with my husband. It was a wonderful experience. Thank you to all staff of Maison l’Arabe for a fantastic, informative and enjoyable afternoon in this beautiful environment.

A cookery class in La Maison Arabe has been on our list for the past year, especially as something to enjoy with my husband who does very little cooking. I am a chef and cookery teacher but often impatient to teach him. I love food and how it beings people together. We had an amazing time and although I teach people how to cook with spices and also Moroccan cuisine, we were very happy to learn about how Moroccans eat at home, new things like the proper way to make Maghrebi mint tea - so much so that we have now become mint tea snobs and judged all other teas we were served elsewhere by the standard of that which we were served at the cookery class. Hasna was a great host and Dada Fatiha was such fun. The cookery school is very professional yet relaxed. We couldn’t stop telling everyone about it and convinced our friend, (Livie) who attended a few days later. We hope to be back soon for different classes especially in the country club cookery school and to bring many more friends along. This is a must try in Marrakech.

Amazing experience learning the art of morrocan tea and morrocan cooking in a beautiful kitchen. The class was fun and relaxed and it was a pleasure to sit and enjoy our cooking with fellow attendees.

Hasna and Fatiha were awesome instructors, always keeping any on us and making sure we didnt forget to smile. The class was fast paced, but very organized so no one was left behind, nor were you waiting around for someone to catch up. I loved having my own little work station. The final product was both beautiful and tasty! The tea and tour at the beginning and the meal with all the students at the end completed the experience. I'm so glad I took this class.

Everything was well planned and beautiful. Venues were perfect, modern and beautiful. Cooking was eaay and fun, but you also learnes a lot. Personnal were friendly and professional.

A wonderful 3 hours learning about the country, spices, and of course the cooking. Lovely set up and all the staff were very helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and above accommodating to all age groups. Will definitely recommend to any friends visiting Marrakech.

It was a very well organized and executed workshop. The leader Hasna and the chef Habibia were excellent. They were professional and friendly, and they conducted the workshop efficiently and made it fun to learn. I really enjoyed this workshop.

Class was very well organised, we have been taken by private coach to an oasis outside of the city walls, with beautiful gardens and cooking school. Class was led by local professor of English language, we started class with introductions to moroccan cuisine and it’s history, preparation of mint tea with herbs and making of local bread in clay oven in outside kitchen and of course sampling!!! Then we went to indoor kitchen to make almond cookies, Chicken Tagine, tomato salad and aubergine dip all absolutely delicious!!!

Lovely way to spend the afternoon making traditional food Very pleasant staff and nice surroundings

Our entire family took this class including 3 teenagers. We all had a blast. We all feel quite proud of ourselves for creating such a delicious meal. Having left Morocco only 2 days ago, we are already talking about trying to re-create our meal for dinner.

Learned so much in our cooking class from all the teachers and really enjoyed the class and it's set-up, so fancy with the tv screens to watch as we cooked. The food was fabulous! We just got home yesterday and are already seasoning our new tajine pots that were gifted to us to test out the recipes. I highly recommend the class!

Our. Lass was completely full. Very diverse group. The dadas were so helpful and kind. The teacher/leader very clear engaging and funny! We learned, we laughed and then we ate and drank together. 10 out 10!

The dadas were great fun and incredibly kind. It was such a great experience to learn about spices, culture, cuisine and typical Moroccan meals. The kitchen is very modern with screens to watch the dadas and great utensils. I can only recommend this class!

My friend and I absolutely loved this class! Super modern and high tech equipment with individual tv screens. Cooking instructor was a real hoot and a half, so much sass (“YALLAYALLAYALLA everybodyyyy”). Highly recommend!

Instructor Youseff was great and explained everything with great detail including all the different slices that are used. We got to make 3 dishes and tried them all for a nice lunch. I feel confident I can go home and make a tagine! The gift tagine was an added bonus and saved us a trip to the souks. HIGHLY recommend to anyone trying to learn about about Morrocan cooking.

Entertaining and informative...

So, choosing this cooking class was a second choice. I initially opted to participate in an open air cooking class but my plans changed and I had to select La Maison Arabe instead. I am so glad I did. I had a lovey talk with Prof. Mohamed before the rest of the group arrived. When they arrived, he led a talk about different recipes. In addition to a tea ceremony, we also had a short tour to see how a community bakery/oven works. When we returned, we started our cooking class, which was absolutely wonderful. We were in a beautiful state of the art oven with individual stations. On our arrival, our station was already set up with tools and ingredients and we were loaned aprons for us to use as we follow Prof. Mohamed and Ayeola, our Dada. Though it was awesome, I was so tired but Prof. Mohamed helped me whenever I needed it. After we finished, we were escorted downstairs and our meal was served. The meal was amazing, if I say so myself. The group I cooked with were wonderful as well, so it made such a difference; Good food, Good people, good conversation! In reading some of the other reviews, I realized we did not get a chance to hear a lot about the different spices and their use, but none the less, the experience was amazing. Next time, I will take my kids to Morocco to share this wonderful experience.

This class is probably the most high-end cooking class you will ever take. Top of the line Bosch cooking stations with video tv screens where they demonstrate the cooking techniques, quality spices, and separate sinks between each of the stations and attention to cleanliness. But most importantly, the food has to come out delicious, which it did. You can say "complements to the chef" (you) and mean it.

We loved this experience. We met a la maison Arab in town and they drove us to the country house 15-20min away. Started with a bread demonstration, then on to the cooking. Showed the different spices and how to cook lemon chicken taking with two different salads. Which we feasted on at the end. Highly recommend

Great host and teacher. Gave a tanjine to everyone. Modern cooking environment with cameras and TVs so you can watch what the chef is doing. Good class size.

Great class, good information given by instructor and fun practical session. Excellent facilities with very modern cooking equipment (knifes could have been A LOT sharper but realise that this is for health and safety reasons!). Youngest member of group was 11yr old girl who was by all means very independent for her age, but the tutor made her feel very special and helped when needed (chopping, operating stove etc). Nice enjoyable meal at the end rasting our own tagines and side "salads" which were very tasty and simple recipes. Only thought for inprovement from us is that the instructor could maybe have a microphone as at some points with fans and other kitchen noises it was quite difficult to hear our instructions, but the TVs at each station provided good visual instruction also!
